Everyone, I’m selling my personal car: a 2004 Honda Civic SiR (EP3).

In Canada we had the SiR, but it’s essentially an Si. Which means it has the “weaker” , yet bulletproof 160-hp K20 engine and a good old, dashboard mounted 5-speed manual with three pedals. It also has VTEC.

It’s not perfect, I mean being a car that grew up in Quebec, it has a few minor rust spots here and there, but nothing that can’t be sanded down and repainted over a weekend. Overall, it drives great, but then, of course it will, because it’s a Honda.

Engine runs and starts great. Doesn’t consume oil, which is rare. The only mechanical thing I would have checked is a pulley that acts up on cold starts. Nothing major. Changed all 4 wheel bearings, two tire rods and redid the front brakes (disks and calipers). Rear brakes will be due soon.

These cars are getting rarer and rarer every day. I’d love to keep it, but since I’m always driving around in press cars, it just always sits in my driveway. I’d like a good owner to take good care of it.

Asking $4 500 CAN. Here’s the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Hit me up in the comments if you have questions.

The want is strong! I wonder if you can import this from Canada to the US without problems. I also have no possible way to keep a second car right now, but man this would make a perfect daily. If you were selling this like a year from now after I move, then I would be all over this! Good luck selling though.

$4500 maplebucks is like $1500 freedom dollars, right? Sold!

It’s pretty easy to bring a Canadian car down to the States. Your laws are less strict than ours. We need daylight running lights and stuff.

Something like that, not sure what the exchange rate is right now, but it is indeed a bargain for you guys. Send me an email if interested: williamclavey@gmail.com

Canadian imports are crazy common. Shouldn’t be an issue. I see trim levels driving around that weren’t available in the US with US plates alllllll the time. It helps living in Michigan to see these things but yeah it happens a lot.

But what about the whole 25 year import restriction thing? I thought that would apply to any country, including Canada? Unless its different in that case.

Really? That is kinda cool. How come I couldn’t legally import an R33 or R34 that is legally in Canada then? Does it have to be something that is also sold in the US? I know have seen plenty of Euro cars while driving around in Toronto that I wondered if you could just import them to the US without issue. I think specifically I was seeing Renaults.

If it’s a car that was already sold in the US then you’re ok. In this case, it’s pretty much an Si with an SiR badge. I’d get informed, since I’m not familiar with US laws. But I have friends here who have purchased American cars often. Over here they just require a quick inspection and added stuff like daylight running lights and improved heater cores.

If a similar variant is for sale in the US you’re golden.

R33/34 weren’t already available here.

What we’re talking about is trim levels not a whole vehicle.

Example, F-150 XTR is not available in the US - only Canada.

Really easy to import because obviously the F-150 is available here.

This article on the FP pretty much covers the various ways to do so and the difficulties faced with each one. There needs to be a very specific set of conditions met to get full compliance. For the skylines you are most likely going to have to wait for the 25 years becuase show and display is a pain to get and really handicaps the usage.

For Will’s Civic SiR, I’d go with the “substantially similar” clause, which is what it’s actually intended for. Though we never got a SiR in the States, as he says it’s essentially the same as the US spec Si. Most importantly, the EP3 chassis was sold here - only as the Si, but that’s still good enough to get it through crash testing and approval.

The only downside I can see is everyone thinking you were dumb enough to slap an SiR badge on an Si to look more mad tyte JDM yo, not realizing that this is the genuine article.

Ironically, I am about to put my wife’s 190,000 (120,000+ of it highway) mile Si for sale for about the same price. The amazing thing it drives like new and benefits from a newer paint job and windshield (hail). She bought a new Civic coupe.

I’ve driven the car to work this week, it drives smoothly with no rattles. Amazing car.

The irony here is that both these cars have the same engine!

Actually, that’s what sold it for us. No direct injection, no turbo; at 190,000 and 14 years, why do I want to experiment with new technology....

The K motor has been excellent for what we do with it, especially when I change the Mobil 1 once a year at between 12,00o and 15,000 miles but still get 4000 miles to the quart....Ps this car averages over 30 mpg in her usage - 60+ mile drive per week day so it’s hard to see where it will be a lot more efficient with a turbo. Not that I wouldn’t want a turbo, but for her. 156 hp is enough.

ps - good luck selling your car, those British built Honda’s are incredibly well built machines.

interesting you needed tie rods, our’s are original, and seem to show no wear as well the ball joints. I did replace front wheel bearings on both sides at under 100,0000 miles and also a O2 sensor, but the rears wheel bearings are original and show no distress. If your car knocks over bumps, it’s the sway bar links as I mentioned earlier. I replaced the belt and tensioner at about 100,000 miles. Everything else including the CV’s are original and wearing well. Our Civic Si looks and drives like a 90,000 mile Honda. Pretty amazing and it recalibrates how long a car can last....

One last thing, this is one of the first cars offered with an electric power steering rack.. It has been flawless which is an accomplishment for a first of it’s kind. .

The problem here is Quebec roads, if you’ve ever driven here, you understand why I needed new tire rods...But you’re right, overall these things are bulletproof.

Haha. Yeah, just re-read it and it does indeed sound weird. But seriously, I’ve had Hondas my entire life. I don’t get this K20, oil level stays intact during entire oil change cycle and remains gold AF.

Crazy. My wife has the Z20Z3 and that thing eats probably 2-3 quarts in 5k. It's by far the worst oil burner of any of the Hondas I've owned.
